Westerm State

Alexis Perry is a freshman softball player at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus with ties to the area. She starred in softball at Mangum High School, which played a factor in her decision to play at Western.

“I chose Western so that I could stay closer to home and so I could watch my brother play his senior year, I’m very happy with my decision to come here, I get to see my family all the time and the teachers at Western are very helpful,” said Perry.

Perry also received interest from Southwestern Oklahoma State and Southeastern Oklahoma State. Another reason she’s been happy with her choice is the coaching.

“I really like playing for my coaches,” said Perry, “they are new from Texas Western and head coach Jenny Stidham I just really like how she pushes us in the weight room and the fact that she has a no-nonsense approach and I really enjoy playing with my teammates.”

At Mangum Alexis started at third base, but will make the transition to playing second base and catcher at Western. Perry caught her junior season of high school. During her senior fastpitch season Perry was the definition of a contact hitter, striking out only three times. Her consistency at the plate and defense earned her All-State honors in both fastpitch and slow-pitch and helped lead Mangum to the State Semifinals in slow-pitch.

With all her high school accomplishments Perry still knows she can improve in college and is working to accomplish her big goals for this season.

“We are required to work-out and in high school that was never the case, I can tell a big difference, I’m hitting the ball a whole lot harder than I did in high school, I’m trying to lead our team in on base percentage and commit less than ten errors this season,” said Perry.

Alexis plans to play two years at Western and then hopes to play in the Big 12. She plans to major in education. Perry ultimately would like to teach biology or chemistry and coach softball and basketball in Southwestern Oklahoma.
