Gabe Watkins is a senior at Binger-Oney High School. He also attends Caddo Kiowa Technology Center, where he says they are preparing him for college.

“I feel like when I go to college I will have a leg up because of what I have learned through Tech,” he said. “They have done an amazing job of teaching me about it as well as applying what they teach.”

Watkins first heard about Tech from his friends. “A few of my friends had gone through the pre-engineering course and they loved it,” he stated. “At the time I was looking for a way to get higher math than what was offered at my high school.”

If someone is thinking about going to Tech, Gabe says that they should go for it. “I would tell them to do it,” he said. “You get to meet people you never would have met and have experiences that will last a lifetime while learning more about your chosen field.”

At Binger-Oney, Watkins is a member of the baseball and basketball teams. “I have played for as long as I can remember,” Gabe said. “I started playing T-ball when I was four years old and have played ever since. I just love to play the game.”

The results are the best part about playing sports, according to Watkins. “I love the feeling that all the hard work and effort I have put in has paid off when we win,” he said. “The most memorable moment of my sports career so far has been when we won the State baseball championship my sophomore year.”

There have been many people who have helped Gabe throughout his life. “My parents, Clint and Veronica Rhodes, and my coaches have been my biggest supporters and fans,” he said. “They pushed me to do my best at everything and to be the best I can be. Without them, I would not be in the position I am in today.”

Watkins is also a member of Future Farmers of America and the FIRST Robotics team for Caddo Kiowa Technology Center.

After graduation, Gabe plans to attend Oklahoma State University and study electrical engineering.
