By Derrick Smith

DeMyra Foster is a junior at Chickasha High School. She is a member of the Fightin’ Chicks basketball and track teams. On the basketball court, she plays point guard and shooting guard. She runs the 100 meter and 200 meter dashes for the track team.

Foster says that there are two people that have the biggest influence on her life.

“The first one is my coach, Shelia Sanders,” she said. “She told me that she saw a leader in me. I feel like this gave me the confidence in my role as one of the captains of the team. Next would be my mom, Devita Mundell. She taught me that I can do anything with effort and dedication.”

It takes a lot of work to be successful in sports, but DeMyra says it also takes the extra things.

“Every year, I try to add something to my game,” she said. “This year, I worked on my shooting. And for track, it has always been staying focused and lowering my time.”

There have been big moments in both sports for DeMyra.

“The highlight moment of my basketball career so far would have to be making the varsity starting lineup when I was a sophomore. The biggest moment in track is making it to state in the 100 meter dash my sophomore year.”

When she is in the classroom, Foster says her favorite teachers teaches what she loves.

“My favorite teacher is Mrs. Carrie Chavers,” DeMyra said. “She is my art teacher and I love to draw. She has shown me new and exciting techniques.”

Foster is also a member of the National Honor Society. Her future plans include attending college and playing basketball or running track. She plans to major in Kinesiology.
