Cason McLemore - Cyril

Cason McLemore – Cyril

Cyril senior Cason McLemore has always enjoyed the sport of basketball, ever since he started playing at the young age of three. He stays busy by also being involved in baseball, track, and rodeo in the summers.

McLemore had the full support of his community behind him, earning him the most votes in VYPE’s online boys basketball poll. It is this enthusiasm that is his favorite thing about Cyril.

“My favorite part about competing for my high school is how the stands are always filled at every game because our town is so supportive,” he said.

McLemore has put in work this season on and off the court. He surpassed the 2,000 point mark and was also picked as All Region Scholar Athlete of the Year out of all classes B-6A. He credits his team for being hard workers and says that they had a great standout moment this season.

“I have great teammates who are always willing to put in work and we all work good as a team,” he said. “The best part of the season was beating a big time rivalry.”

Cason McLemore

McLemore has a strong work ethic himself. He strives to make himself a better player by always giving 100 percent on the court and putting in work at the gym in his free time. Someone who he looks up to as an example of hard work is his father and coach.

“My role model has always been my dad, who grew up playing basketball in Cyril,” he said. “He has taught me that hard work and dedication is the key to success.”

Since his father, Shane McLemore, is also the head basketball coach at Cyril, he has a special perspective on what Cason brings to the team.

“Cason is a great leader, pushing his teammates to workout and lift weights during our off season. He is a calm, smart player always reading defenses and making right decisions,” he said. “He also is a player that can take over a game at any time but also trust his teammates to take big shots when needed.”

McLemore’s plans after high school are to continue playing basketball as he pursues a career as a petroleum engineer.
