Lawton’s Keagan Kline – Character Counts Presented by Arvest Bank

Lawton senior Keagan Kline has played baseball his whole life. Aside from the sport itself, he liked that he got to make friends with those around him.

“What interested me is when I went out to practice for the first time in first grade and I had a lot of fun playing the game and getting to know new people,” said Kline.

Pitching and playing infield for the Wolverines baseball team, Kline has formed very close bonds with his teammates. That plus the opportunity to rise to each challenge on the field are his favorite things about playing for Lawton High.

“The thing I like about competing in the high school community is there’s always a new challenge to overcome, and the bonds you make with your teammates,” he said. “My teammates are like family to me. I’d do anything for them.”

Kline is an active part of his high school community whether on the field or off. He is involved in Scream Team, a group responsible for hyping up the crowd at games.

“It’s a group of seniors that go to all the sports games at our high school and we cheer for all the players and keep the students involved the whole game,” he said.

Over the years Kline says he has looked up to his coaches and the upperclassmen before him as role models.

“I looked up to my upperclassmen and always tried to learn everything I could from them, as well as my coaches, always trying to push me to be the best I could be,” he said.

Kline strives to be an athlete with character, which to him is essential in his sport.

“Good character is a must in athletics,” he said. “It helps you both in and out of the game. In athletics it makes you keep your head up when times are hard even when bad things are happening.”

Part of why he sets the bar high for himself is to make those around him proud.

“My motivations for being the best I can be would be my mom because that’s how she raised me,” he said. “And my coaches because they expect nothing less.”

After high school he plans to attend UCO and hopes to continue his baseball career there.
