Altus’ Alyssa Hargis – Track & Field Spotlight – Presented by Frazer Bank

Altus High School senior, Alyssa Hargis, is a member of the varsity track team and competes in the high jump for the Bulldogs. Being a member of the team is something Hargis is proud of and loves every moment with her teammates.

“I have been competing in high jump since my sophomore year. There had been many times after mentioning that I was in track someone would ask if I had high jumped because of my height. I started to get the idea that I should maybe try this event out and it ended up being the perfect event for me. This event is just right for someone who is 5-foot-10 like  myself. Something I cherish about my team is that we have all built friendships with each other over a common interest. I love that my teammates have led me to be the best version of myself as an athlete,” said Hargis.

This season she has reached new personal bests in competition and the team is doing the same.

“This season has been going great for me as well the team. We have so much talent in a lot of different areas. We have all been working so hard to better ourselves in preparation for regionals and state,” said Hargis. “I have always felt a great deal of pride putting on a uniform that says Altus on it. I have loved every minute of being a part of team and school that endlessly supports me and truly leads me to success. Wearing bulldog colors will always bring a lot of happiness to my heart.”

Being a student-athlete at Altus High School has opened doors for Hargis, she never thought were available.

“I love the endless opportunities we have to not only succeed in athletics but as well academics. The faculty always has the student’s best interest at heart and never fails to make sure us athletes are on top of our school work,” Hargis said. “Through the many activities I have been involved in, academics has always been my top priority. It has always been so important to me to make good grades and maintain a high GPA in order to get in the college of my choice. I couldn’t imagine putting anything else before my academics.”

Hargis is a member of the Link Crew Program designed to mentor underclassmen as they enter high school.

“I am one of the commissioners for the Link Crew Program. Link Crew is a leadership program providing me the exciting opportunity to mentor the freshman class during their first year at the high school. I am also involved in National Honor Society. Through this I have learned the importance of being committed to serving my school and community,” said Hargis.

In her free time she enjoys spending quality time with my friends and family, fishing, going to the lake, and watching movies. She also loves spending time with her adorable one year old golden retriever, Beau.

After graduating from Altus High School, Hargis plans to attend the University of Oklahoma and major in public health.

“I would like to obtain a Doctorate of Medicine, specializing in Emergency Medicine,” said Hargis.
