Anadarko Lady Warriors Take 4A State Title – Brought to you by Wichita and Affiliated Tribes

Anadarko Takes Title With Defense

Anadarko started the 2018-19 season with a road loss to the No. 4 team in Class 4A, Elgin. The Lady Warriors followed up their opening loss with a four game winning streak, but would face Elgin again in late December and once again the Lady Owls got the best of them. This time the Lady Warriors went on a 21 game winning streak all the way to a state title. They also avenged the two loses to Elgin in late January with a, 45-40 victory over the Owls.

The defense was a big reason Anadarko made an historic push for a title. Head coach Jeff Zinn led Anadarko to a No. 5 ranking and a record of 27-3. The press style defense gave opponents fits all year. In the finals against Muldrow, the No. 1 team in Class 4A, the Lady Warriors clamped down on Muldrow star Taylen Collins forcing 10 turnovers and eventually fouled out of the game. As a team, Anadarko forced 27 turnovers with Averi Zinn and Lexi Foreman accounting for five steals each.

Foreman led all Anadarko scorers with 12 points in the finals. Her effort certainly helped in the 54-49 victory. Other scorers for Anadarko were Kaylee Borden who finished with 11 and Zinn who knocked down 10 points. The win was a special moment for the Zinn family as coach Zinn and Averi Zinn, only a junior, shared the moment with Libbi and Layni Zinn, two more daughters of coach Zinn. The younger sisters are sophomores and the trio will have yet another year to play together for their father next season.

Assistant coaches for the Lady Warriors included Katie Cantrell, Roger Crawford and Calin Tillis. The managers were Hannah Williams, Rose Watkins and Jayla Bigbow. The win marked the third girls state basketball title in school history (’05, ’12, ’19).
