Elgin’s Chloe Phillips: Athlete Spotlight – Presented by Cameron University

A graduate of Elgin High School, Chloe Phillips amassed an impressive high school resume in her four years as an Owl. Phillips is a four-time state qualifier, All-State Honorable Mention in cross country and was the Senior Athlete of the Year in 2018. She also ran relays for the track team and played soccer. Her talents landed her at Cameron University straight out of high school as a collegiate runner.

“I went to Cameron University right after I graduated high school. I had already been attending Cameron my whole senior year of high school taking concurrent enrollment classes, I loved the environment and the fact that I could stay at home with my family,” said Phillips.

This fall she starts her sixth season in cross country and she is looking forward to competing with her teammates.

“What I have enjoyed most about competing at a collegiate level is that literally everything revolves around running and everyone is fully dedicated because we are all at the next level,” said Phillips.

Her major at Cameron University is Sports and Exercise Science. While a student at Elgin High School, Phillips began taking concurrent classes to give her a head start on her college degree.

“Since I took concurrent enrollment classes, this fall I will be starting my junior year,” said Phillips.

Phillips is dedicated to her team and teammates at Cameron University and she loves her teammates and coaches.

“I’ve learned how to actually establish a relationship with my coaches and teammates,” said Phillips about her time at Cameron. “It’s what I loved most about Cameron University.”

Now a seasoned veteran, Phillips offers this advice to any high school student considering competing this season.

“I would tell the athletes to stay consistent, positive, and to enjoy every race,” said Phillips.
