Mangum’s Sidney Webb – Lawton Area Softball Spotlight Presented by Arvest Bank

Winning a game or a championship can be an exciting moment for a player that has put in the hard work and time to achieve that goal. But for Sidney Webb, being voted the winner of the Lawton Area Softball poll was unexpected and showed her how much backing she has.

“It is very humbling to have so much community support shown,” she said. “It is an honor to be able to represent Mangum softball.”

Webb is a senior at Mangum High School, where she plays pitcher and first base for the school’s softball team. She has been playing softball for eight years.

During her time playing sports, one thing Sidney has learned is that success is not something that is just handed out. “In order to be successful in softball, it takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and lots of drills.”The biggest moment in her career was not a personal achievement, but it was when her team achieved something they had not done before. “My most memorable moment in softball was winning the Washington Tournament,” she said. “That was the first time that Mangum had ever won the tournament.”

Former University of Oklahoma softball player, Lauren Chamberlain, is who Sidney looks up to as a role model. “Not only is she an amazing softball player but she is very encouraging to young women.”

The teachers that she has had throughout her school years have all been great, but Sidney says that there is one that made the biggest impact. “Mrs. Alexander would have to be my favorite,” she said. “She has taught me a lot in class plus she has also helped me to be more respectful and responsible.”

Other than athletics, Webb is also involved with a few different clubs and groups. She is a part of Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, Business Professionals of America, and BreakThrough Youth.

After she graduates high school, Sidney plans to play college softball and major in sports medicine, but the school has not been decided.
