Weatherford’s Ashlyn Sage: Weatherford Spotlight Presented by Pond Agency

Weatherford High School junior and basketball player, Ashlyn Sage, is ready for a great season and, “making a deep run in the playoffs and hopefully playing for a State Championship,” Ashlyn said.

Ashlyn plays what she considers the guard position, but is willing and able to play whatever position her coach assigns her at any given moment. Ashlyn fell in love with the sport when she first started playing for her local YMCA league in kindergarten.

This junior is not only busy with basketball, but she runs in track, is involved in the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes club, and the First Baptist Church Youth Group.

Basketball can be a demanding sport, physically and mentally.

“Not putting too much pressure on myself,” said Ashlyn is the hardest part of the sport for her. “Traveling with my AAU team and getting to meet and play against some of the best players in the country,” Ashlyn said is her favorite part of basketball.

Ashlyn believes that basketball will most definitely help her succeed in the future by helping her “in leadership roles and not giving up when things get tough,” Ashlyn said. “Trying to help my team get to a state tournament and reaching personal goals I set for myself each year,” Ashlyn said helps her to stay motivated.

As far as her plans after high school Ashlyn has already committed to play basketball for the University of Arkansas. “I’m really excited about getting to play at the next level,” said Ashlyn.
