Anadarko’s Averi Zinn: Athlete Spotlight Presented By Bank of Commerce

Coming off a state title last year, Anadarko senior Averi Zinn realizes she and her team of Lady Warriors have a tough road in order to repeat. “Our goal as a team is to win back to back state titles,” Zinn said. “I know that it’s super tough to do, because your team definitely has a target on its back. We just have to be as hungry as we were last year for it. Personally, I want to do my best as a leader, and get my shooting percentage up from last year. And as always, I want to get my assists higher.”

Zinn runs the point for the Lady Warriors, and is in the unique position of having her father as her coach. She said at times, that can be a difficult thing to manage. “There are many times where he will be harder on me, but the benefits of being a coaches kid definitely evens it out,” she said. “So aside from the times he’s yelled at me, the basketball intelligence I’ve gotten from him is awesome. Some of my favorite memories are watching a game with him on TV and him giving me so much insight on what reads to make on offense and defense.”

The Oklahoma Baptist University commit said she tries to model her game after Chris Paul and Steve Nash, because of the way they make their teammates better. She plans to study pre-med at OBU, and said she’s excited to be a Character Counts Athlete. “I think having character means to always do the right thing,” she said. “And also to be kind to others even if no one is looking or it’s not the popular choice.”
