Plainview’s Riley Grant – Character Counts Presented by Carter County Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM

By Ryan Stone

The Plainview Character Counts honor goes to Riley Grant a sophomore on the girls’ basketball team. Last season as a freshman Grant started every game as a post player and was a key contributor for Plainview.

As she enters her sophomore season Grant has worked hard this off-season to improve on her free throw shooting and going up strong in the paint.

“My goals for this season are really just to improve from last season,” said Grant, “I want to average 10 to 12 points per game and average more rebounds than last season. As a team our goal is to make it to the State Tournament, I think the key for that will be hard work and playing as a team.”

After getting a year of experience last year it’s clear that Riley knows what her job is for this Plainview team.

“My role on our team is to just work hard down low get rebounds and go back up with them, also being present on defense,” said Grant.

One thing is certain, character is important to Grant.

“To me it’s just being dedicated and a hard worker,” said Grant, “also it’s about being respectable and a good teammate”

Outside of basketball Grant also plays softball at Plainview. She is also a standout in the classroom with a 3.85 GPA and is a member of FCCLA.
