Elk City’s Hayleigh Musick – Character Counts Athlete of the Month Presented By Great Plains Bank

The Elk City Character Counts Honor goes to Hayleigh Musick, a senior basketball player for the Lady Elks. Musick plays shooting guard for Elk City, whose main role is scoring.

“I think I could do better with my shooting and ball handling,” said Musick, “but other than that I’ve played pretty well, my goal at this point is just to score more and to be a better team player.”

Musick is also a leader for Elk City and takes pride in that responsibility.

“I just try to help the under classmen, tell them not to worry too much if they mess up, just to keep their head up and get it on the next play. Also just trying to keep them calm in rough situations,” said Musick.

It shows in her leadership that character is something that clearly means a lot to Musick.

“To me character is how you act when things get rough and just being able to keep your attitude and composure toward things,” said Musick.

Outside of basketball Musick plans on playing soccer for the first time in high school. Hayleigh used to play soccer when she was little and just never got back around to it but has decided to play again.

Musick is also a standout in the classroom with a 3.6 GPA. After graduation she plans on attending Southwestern Oklahoma State to pursue a degree in psychology.
