Weatherford’s Ethan Downs – Character Counts Presented By Pond Agency

By Ember McElrath

Weatherford Character Counts recipient Ethan Downs, believes having good character is one of the most important things in life. “If you don’t have good character, people won’t trust you. It is an outward expression of your heart and determines whether you are willing to do the right thing, even when no one is watching,” said Ethan.

Ethan is about the busiest a high school junior can be. He is part of several school activities including, football, track, NHS, STUCO, FCA, Fans in the Stands, and powerlifting. Outside of school Ethan is busy with different church activities, being an assistant coach for pee wee football, attending summer camps, being a camp counselor, volunteering for Hospice, and holding down a job.

This past football season Ethan was proud of where the team ended up at. “We finished in the state championship. It was not the perfect season, we were not undefeated and we didn’t deserve to win the championship because the victorious team did. However, I wouldn’t ever take it back. We were a true team in the playoffs and we loved to battle,” said Ethan.

For track Ethan is looking forward to another great season. “I won the shot put at state last year, but I wish to throw much further and I did last year in both shot and disc,” Ethan said.

His motivation comes from his faith in God. “I believe I have a job to pursue outside of sports. Impacting people for the better is what I love to do. God has blessed me with a super supportive family and many motivations,” said Ethan.
