Chickasha’s Leighanna Eaton – Athlete of the Month Presented By First National Bank & Trust Co

The Chickasha Character Counts Honor goes to Leighanna Eaton, a freshman basketball player. As a freshman Eaton starts in the post for Chickasha and has a lot of responsibility for a freshman.

“I’m just trying to step up as a freshman,” said Eaton, “a lot of times people don’t expect a freshman to be a leader, but since we have a young team it’s what I must do.”

With a young team Eaton and her teammates know they still have a lot to learn.

“We just want to continue to get better as a team and just continue to learn, Coach Craven has been working with us on a lot of things that we haven’t been taught throughout the years. I want to get better at knowing the game and just being smarter on the court, for example just knowing when to make the right passes, when to drive versus when to shoot outside,” said Eaton.

The season has had a couple highlights for Eaton so far including a recent win over Clinton in a game no one thought they would win. She also scored a season high 15 points in another game.

Outside of basketball Eaton plays fast pitch and is the starting catcher for Chickasha. During the Fall they finished as the regional runner-up.
Eaton also performs in the classroom with a GPA of 3.8 and she’s a member of the student council.

Character is something that means a lot to Eaton.

“Character to me means having a good attitude even if your team is down,” said Eaton, “just having a good attitude and just getting everybody pumped up.”
