Duncan’s Katelyn Samuals – Athlete Spotlight Presented By Bank of Commerce

Duncan High School Senior and athlete can now add Character Counts recipient to her resume. Katelyn Samuals feels humbled to be receiving the award. “I try to live in a way that positively impacts others,” Katelyn said. Katelyn currently plays shooting guard for her team as well as being active members of her senior classes Student Council and National Honor Society.

Playing basketball since she was five in her local church league Katelyn has many fond memories and loves everything about the game that she can. “My favorite part about basketball is getting to make new friendships and growing close with my teammates,” Katelyn said. Keeping herself motivated is key to this senior athlete. “Something that keeps me motivated is wanting to always be better than my past self,” said Katelyn.

Being a senior and athlete comes with its fair share of responsibilities and Katelyn is well aware of them. “It makes me feel very encouraged to know younger athletes are looking up to me because I know I’m doing good things and staying on the right track,” said Katelyn.

“Good character to me, means that I treat everyone how I want to be treated, and I am the same at home as I am at school. It means I have integrity and follow through with what I start and be the best I can,” Katelyn said.

Being a busy senior and athlete at Duncan doesn’t stop Katelyn from also taking classes at Cameron College, getting a jump start on her future.
